Thousands of school kids got a taste of literary life and what it takes to be an author, RNZ reports, attending the Auckland Writers Festival last week. The festival’s school programme was a mainstay with 2000 students a day sitting in on author talks, meeting writers and getting books signed. Festival organisers are hoping to capture a younger market – and keep it coming back. “The authors are normal kiwiana people like us and it’s really nice to see people who are famous who come from this country,” said one of the student attendees.
