‘Small’ Auckland landlords say they’d offer 10-year leases for tax breaks

Auckland landlords say the Government’s recent policy announcement that it will give corporate landlords tax breaks is unfair, Stuff reports. Investors building more than 20 dwellings will be allowed to write off interest on their debt from their tax “in perpetuity” if they offered 10-year leases. Auckland landlord Toby Yorke is in the middle of building six houses to rent out and wants to know why he won’t be extended the same benefit by the Government, especially as he is “more than happy” to offer 10-year leases.
