Auckland’s North Shore is probably the last place you’d expect to find a food bank supplying people in desperate need, says Newsroom. But the cost of living crisis is hitting hard and wide. “There are big housing developments with lots of people who don’t have very much money, and alongside that a lot of those whānau have been displaced from the community where they were,” says Sophie Gray who runs the Good Works Trust food bank. Other issues include the rapid escalation in rental prices and the cost of fuel, with the Shore’s public transport being ‘pretty patchy’.
