Two newly-hatched gentoo chicks, believed to be a male and a female, are settling in well under the watchful eyes of their parents after both being born on November 4 at SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium. Stuff reports that one chick weighs 2500 grams while the other barely tips the scales at 1600 grams. The chicks can be spotted nestling under their parents at the underwater attraction in Auckland’s Ōrākei. Gentoo penguins are the third-largest penguin species and are known for their charisma and swimming abilities, with underwater speeds of up to 36 kmh – the fastest speed recorded for any penguin.
