Resource consent has been granted to replace the nearly 100-year-old Huia Water Treatment Plant in West Auckland, Stuff reports, despite opposition from more than 470 submitters, including Auckland Council. Watercare’s plan to replace the water plant includes earthworks and vegetation removal, stirring concerns among opposition as they believe it could cause adverse effects on the environment and risk spreading kauri dieback disease. However, Watercare says the plant replacement is “absolutely critical” for its customers, with the existing plant being built in 1928.
