Royal Heights Medical Centre, a west Auckland GP clinic, has been struggling to recruit a practice nurse for almost a year and is fearing it could be due to staff burnout, RNZ reports. According to Royal Heights’ Dr. Joanna Lapish, nurses have been drawn to vaccination clinics due to a much higher wage compared to what a primary care role could offer. A 2020 survey by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners revealed more than 30 percent of respondents were at high risk of burnout.
