Waitemata District Health Board (DHB) has joined the fray in endorsing a position on alcohol harm, NZ Herald reports. Health boards are calling for restrictions on the availability of alcohol, increasing the minimum legal purchase age and the price of booze to curtail the growing burden of alcohol-related health conditions. Health officials are also wanting a reduction of alcohol advertising, promotion and sponsorship, along with drink-driving countermeasures. Further, DHB stands firm that alcohol is not an ordinary commodity, it is an intoxicant, toxin and addictive psychotropic drug.
