The government is being urged to consider vaccinating South Aucklanders first when the community rollout starts, RNZ reports. Papatoetoe and its surrounding suburbs are struggling with the current Covid outbreak – and the south is disproportionately hit by Auckland’s large August cluster. With border workers and their families as one of the priorities for phase one of the vaccination plan, Pasifika Medical Association Chief Executive Debbie Sorensen, as well as National Māori Pandemic group leader Rawiri Jansen, are calling on the government to put South Auckland near the top of the queue. However, Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said the government will stick with its plan to prioritise border workers and the most at risk frontline workers.
