Auckland Council has revealed the most popular dog names and breeds in Tāmaki Makaurau and the region’s rarest canines. Auckland is a city of dog lovers, with ‘fur kids’ being an important part of many households across the region. Topping the list for female dog names is Bella, with Charlie for males. Auckland is also home to just one of each of the 13 rarest breeds, including Bluetick Coonhound, Icelandic Sheepdog, Russian Toy and Great Swiss Mountain Dog.
