Lower speed limits en route for more than 1600 Auckland roads

Lower speed limits are on the horizon for more than 1600 roads around Tāmaki Makaurau, Stuff reports. Auckland Transport’s board endorsed large number speed limit changes which will be rolled out between December 2022 and March 2023. The upcoming speed limit changes will mostly be around schools, but motorists will also have to drive slower around rural marae, high-risk rural roads, and town centres. Speed is a factor in more than 70% of injury crashes in New Zealand, but in areas where speed limits were lowered in 2020, fatalities have now reduced by 30%.
