Dr John Bonning, spokesperson for the College of Emergency medicine, has said the overcrowding and long wait times Middlemore is experiencing are “not some Covid blip”, Stuff reports. The increased overcrowding at the south Auckland hospital “has been coming for almost a decade”. Bonning said that patients were being seen in about six hours, back in 2015. “Unfortunately, now patients are waiting 24 hours.” Health Minister Andrew Little acknowledged a health system which has been “poorly resourced for a long time”.
