Habitat for Humanity believes 300,000 Kiwi families are living in unacceptable housing conditions, Stuff reports, as a result of unaffordable homes, overcrowding and poor housing stock. “I have a tent on my front lawn,” says Pania Andrew, a local in Māngere, Auckland. “I’ve had it there for two years, and we’ve housed people in it, people from our community, we’ve housed families with children from our school.” Another local agrees the situation is a disaster, saying “You can’t even afford, for one single-income earner, to rent a flat because there aren’t any flats available.”
