More than 40,000 Auckland homes received an unsolicited garden bag they were then asked to pay for, Stuff reports. The Commerce Commission has warned five garden bag businesses for creating the impression customers were required to pay for additional services they did not request. The businesses stated a rental fee would apply to customers unless the bag – dropped as part of a marketing spree – was returned before a certain date. Under the Fair Trading Act it is illegal for businesses to ask for payment for any goods or services a customer did not ask for.
