About 7000 staff at all eight universities around New Zealand were striking throughout the day on Thursday, Stuff reports. It is the first coordinated strike of staff from all universities in the past 20 years. The action began at 9.30am with rallies on all three Massey University campuses – in Albany, Manawatū, and Wellington. The strike is about pay, with the Tertiary Education Union saying pay rates have not kept up with inflation. Most staff will be paid during the strike, except those at the University of Auckland and Victoria University of Wellington.
