The Mason Clinic, Auckland’s secure psychiatric facility, is still using painful methods of restraint, including wrist locks and prone (floor) restraint, to control people with intellectual disabilities, Stuff reveals. The Office of the Ombudsman called the restraints used at Mason Clinic’s Pohutukawa Forensic Intellectual Disability Unit “unacceptable”. The Mason Clinic is one of only a few clinics in New Zealand to still use those techniques.
