A leopard seal has washed up dead at Auckland’s Westhaven Marina, Stuff reports, but it’s not believed to be the marina’s resident leopard seal, Owha. Arrangements were made for the seal to be transferred to Auckland Zoo, where it will undergo an autopsy for research purposes. Ngāti Paoa spokesperson Karla Allies said it was important to study the animal to glean information. A karakia (prayer) was said by iwi representatives before the seal was moved.
