A retirement village has opened an investigation, NZ Herald reports, after a patient at their hospital was placed in a room for four days, with dead insects on a dirty carpet and toilet paper strewn about the bathroom. Her granddaughter, Jessicca Derrick, described her shock on seeing the room at Sarah Selwyn Hospital in Pt Chevalier, Auckland: “The carpet was filthy, it was not vacuumed at all, there were food crumbs, dead insects, and hair all over.” The room remained untouched by cleaners for four days, despite Jessica’s complaints to staff. “The worst part is my nana was not bathed for all that time,” says Jessica. “She was kept in that unhygienic place not looked after. It is unacceptable.”
