Construction workers mistakenly damaged the roof of a cycleway underpass in West Auckland, NZ Herald reports, forcing its closure and a detour for cyclists when part of the roof collapsed. Group manager David Nelson said contractors from Fulton Hogan were digging the foundations of a new street light on Te Atatu Rd about 12.30am and “during the dig, the crew mistakenly dug through to the … underpass”. Detours were put in place about 3am, with hand-written signs alerting cyclists – but the signage, which Nelson said was “quickly put together”, and the managing of the detour frustrated some.
