An Auckland pair has been sentenced to community detention, Stuff reports, after attempting to sell 222 crayfish on the black market, using Facebook group chats. An MPI investigation uncovered that the pair had a history of this behaviour, having previously sold 277 crayfish through the black market. Under the Fisheries Act, it is illegal to sell recreationally caught seafood, and the daily catch limit for crayfish in the Hawke’s Bay area, where they had been crayfishing, is only six per person.
