Too little, too late: What now for Auckland’s road safety?

Auckland Transport is consulting on safety improvements in Pukekohe town centre, including raised crossings and new traffic signals, and Wednesday 31 August is the last day to have your say, Greater Auckland reports. It follows the deaths of Levi James, who was killed on his bike in Royal Oak six months ago (in an area where people had been begging for improvements), and the victim who was hit by a bus on Monday in Pukekohe, at a notoriously dangerous roundabout. So why does this keep happening, when AT knows what’s needed? There seems to be a communication problem between AT and the public, and most of all between AT and itself.
