More than 900 firefighters raced up the Sky Tower’s 51 flights of stairs to raise money for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand, Stuff reports. Back for its 18th consecutive year, this year’s challenge had one notable participant doing his 16th climb – Jim Snedden, an 80-year-old volunteer firefighter from Waiuku in Auckland’s rural south. The youngest participant was 16 years old. Firefighters had to climb up 51 flight of stairs, a total of 1103 individual steps, wearing up to 25kg of gear.
