Newroom: From beginning to end, Te Tiriti o Waitangi is a non-racial agreement, writes Dame Anne Salmond, a Distinguished Professor in anthropology at the University of Auckland. But it has been recast as a partnership between races, and that has provoked racist reactions. The concept has been declared scientifically obsolete, and its ugly colonial history laid bare.
