An Auckland veterans club is having to close after selling their property and leasing it back for a “very, very high” rent, Stuff reports. While it’s only down the road from the Papakura Military Camp, the Papakura Returned and Services’ Association (RSA) has been unable to stay afloat. Membership had been flagging and when Covid-19 forced the club to shut down for extended periods, it accelerated the inevitable decline. Meanwhile, Royal New Zealand RSA chief executive Martin O’Donoghue is campaigning to sign up younger veterans country-wide, with a more community based approach.
