Food banks are under more pressure than ever due to the cost of living, says The Spinoff. But one South Auckland social service questions whether they’re the only way to help. The Salvation Army’s new Kiwi Kai co-op in Clendon, Manurewa, is a fledgling co-operative scheme. Members receive a box of fruit and vegetables every week for $15, plus discounts on other essentials such as eggs and milk. They also receive a raised garden box set-up at their home that comes with a range of seedlings.
