Plans to open a new crossing over Auckland’s Manukau Harbour have been put in place for late next year, Stuff reveals, after more than three years of closure of the Old Māngere Bridge and multiple setbacks to construction. Closed due to public safety concerns, the old bridge was scrapped in favour of a $25 million replacement. Believed to be the oldest bridge of its type crossing a New Zealand Harbour, the reinforced concrete bridge lasted until November 2018. The new walking and cycling bridge will reestablish the link between north and south Auckland, allowing those on foot and bike to cross between the suburbs of Māngere and Onehunga.
