Climate organisations are criticising the Government for approving an expansion to State Highway 1 under Covid-19 legislation, Stuff reveals, saying the move goes against its own climate policy. The extension, green-lit under the Covid-19 Fast-Track Consenting Act, will see a third lane added in each direction between Papakura and Drury in Auckland’s south. But Greenpeace campaigner Niamh O’Flynn said the construction of bigger roads would cause more climate pollution and went against that pledge.
