Filmed under the twin shadows of both the pandemic and the Lord of the Rings, Cowboy Bebop is an Auckland film success story, Newsroom reports. Showrunner André Nemec, and Kiwi location manager Clayton Tikao, discuss the unique experience of filming a big-budget TV show in the middle of a pandemic, and how the appeal of filming such shows in New Zealand now extends beyond its scenery. Filming took place in 185 locations around Auckland from July 2019 to March 2021, with more than 150 locals involved with the art and construction teams alone.
