Some Auckland schools are battling virtual truancy as they head back into online classes on Monday, with more than 50% of students dropping off the radar, RNZ reports. Next week sees Auckland students heading into Week 10 of Covid-19 restrictions, with no face-to-face classes and no firm return date. Nardi Leonard, a school principal in Māngere East, said it was important people understood families did actually want to engage, and were sometimes held back by factors such as unreliable wi-fi access or multiple students sharing one device. “What we worry about for our school is if you’re not in a good space in your head and in your heart, then how can you read and write?” Leonard added.
