Kiwis are advised to be vigilant and not to click on links sent via unexpected text messages, after a “huge number” of people were messaged by scammers pretending to be from Westpac, Newshub reports. The scam, which is used to gain the recipient’s financial information, was somehow sent from Westpac’s actual text message number, making it look even more convincing. Police said people should contact their bank immediately if they believe they’ve fallen victim to a scam – anyone who receives the text should send it to: phishing@westpac.co.nz
