The construction of a trial cycleway called Project Wave will commence this week, Auckland Council announces. Project Wave is a partnership between Auckland Transport (AT) and Panuku Development Auckland which aims to connect the Nelson Street and Quay Street cycleways. There will be additional loading zones, pedestrian crossing points, and a one-way system as part of the trial, which encompasses MarketPlace, part of Customs Street West, and Lower Hobson Street. The cycleway, which will open in stages, is expected to be fully operational by mid-May 2021. Until then, AT will be deciding its long-term future.
