Auckland’s semi-retired musician Alan MacDonald is arguing for leniency after being fined for mistakenly entering a bus lane, TVNZ reports. MacDonald was fined $150 – his total earnings for his Sunday gig – in December 2020, after he mistakenly entered a bus lane on Auckland’s Khyber Pass. No bus service was disrupted by Macdonald’s incursion, though the fine is standard for a bus lane breach. He decided not to take up the option of challenging the offence in court – where the fine could have been scaled up or down.
