America’s Cup weather gear could improve Auckland Harbour Bridge safety

America’s Cup weather forecasting gear could be used to predict high winds on the Auckland Harbour Bridge, preventing a repeat of last year’s damage and traffic chaos caused by toppled trucks, Stuff reports. The technology, known as Auckland Model, is a high-resolution weather forecasting model which forecasts weather on a finer scale than other models in New Zealand. It was designed by scientists from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) to accurately predict wind shifts in the Hauraki Gulf.
