A dead snake found in a drain at an Auckland construction site on Tuesday has sparked a biosecurity scare, TVNZ reports. The Ministry of Primary Industries said the 115cm snake had been “tentatively identified as a juvenile non-venomous carpet python”, subject to confirmation from its herpetologist. Biosecurity New Zealand team manager of aquatic and environmental health Michael Taylor said there was no evidence of further snakes in the area and there is no more threat to the public but they will investigate how it arrived in New Zealand.
