Plans for an Auckland memorial to honour Holocaust victims are getting closer to reality, Stuff reports. The Auckland Holocaust Memorial Trust (AHMT) was given approval on Monday to build The Garden of Humanity memorial in the Domain. At the centre of the design are cobblestones from a street in Warsaw, the place where Polish Jews made a final stand against the Nazis in 1943. The memorial is proposed to be built around the Fairy Pond in Auckland Domain, and works will involve restoring the pond, planting native trees, constructing a walkway and building a pond wall.
