Some of Auckland’s biggest Waitangi Day celebrations have been scrapped to stop any possible spread of Covid-19, reports Stuff. Between 10,000 and 20,000 people were expected at Ngāti Whātua o Ōrākei’s celebrations on February 6. Also on the chopping block was Waitangi ki Manukau in south Auckland, where Che Fu and Herbs were scheduled to play. “Holding a concert at this time given our community’s vulnerability would be irresponsible,” Manukau Urban Māori Authority board chairman Bernie O’Donnell said. “The risk profile is too great in our mind now, so we are acting decisively according to the best interests of the community we serve.”
