Motorists have been caught speeding more than 36,000 times along an Auckland highway – clocking up $3.7 million in fines – in the six months since new speed limits were brought in, Stuff reports. In June 2020, the speed limit was reduced from 80kmh to 60kmh on parts of Coatesville-Riverhead Highway, in northwest Auckland. It was among the hundreds of roads Auckland Transport slashed speed limits to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries caused by crashes. However, data obtained from New Zealand Police under the Official Information Act, shows from July until December, 36,603 speed offences were dished out – either by police officers or from camera data.
