Sharks sighted at three Auckland beaches, council issues alert

Auckland Council has issued safety warnings to swimmers, after several shark sightings at three Auckland beaches, Stuff reports. Sharks were spotted at Long Bay, Waiake Bay and Browns Bay on Auckland’s North Shore, on Friday afternoon. It is not yet known what species of sharks are roaming so close to the popular beaches, but marine scientist Clinton Duffy notes that in the past few months alone there have “already been a number of bronze whalers found washed up around Auckland.”
