A popular Auckland beach has become the first in the region to be made accessible for people with disabilities. Stuff reports a $30,000 donated access mat was rolled out on Saturday at Takapuna beach on the North Shore. YES Disability Resource Centre CEO, Sonia Thursby, said people who use wheelchairs, walkers and have mobility restrictions can now easily access the beach. “The mat will run along the side of the accessible playground, and across towards the ocean, helping to create a fully accessible experience for any looking to enjoy the water these summer holidays.”
