Congestion charge of $3.50 could impact Auckland commuters

A congestion charge to enter Auckland’s central city at peak times could happen within three years. However, Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says that if the new scheme goes ahead then the regional fuel tax would need to go. “If we are to introduce something that is an additional tax on people for travelling, then you want it to replace, not be additional to, existing costs that are met by motorists. That needs to be a quid pro quo.”
