Auckland Zoo prepares to rehome elephants

Auckland Zoo’s two female Asian elephants – Burma and Anjalee – will say goodbye to their current home and relocate to another accredited zoo facility around mid-2021. Auckland Zoo director Kevin Buley said it was a hard decision to make, but the elephants needed a family herd for their long-term wellbeing. ” Our two elephants are such an important part of our zoo whānau…” Buley said. “Over the past five years, changing circumstances beyond our control mean that we are no longer in a position to give them the long-term future they need.”
