Auckland households face ongoing water restrictions throughout summer, with the council not convinced the risks of the ongoing drought are gone. Auckland’s supply dams are 72 per cent full (compared with a norm of 91 per cent), following the driest first half-year on record. Auckland Council says additional sources of water are being added, and that the community response to restrictions imposed in May has been good. But as Auckland mayor Phil Goff notes, “The easing of water restrictions is not a license to use unlimited water… While this is good news, we are not out of the woods yet.”
