The contentious idea of building a new mega-port in Auckland’s Manukau Harbour has been given a further nudge in the Budget, Stuff reports. A bitterly-debated plan over whether, when and where to shift Auckland’s downtown port, has been idle since a concluding report by the Ministry of Transport favoured the Manukau Harbour over Firth of Thames. Future locations became a political hot potato with Northport being favoured by a study group chaired by now Auckland mayoral candidate Wayne Brown.
