New housing intensification plans are exposing a generational divide over how far cities should go in preserving their historical character, Stuff reports. New Lynn Heritage Protection Society spokesperson Penny Laybourn said the focus needed to be on high-density zones already designated by Auckland’s Unitary Plan, where “vast areas” remained unchanged and undeveloped. But Coalition for More Homes spokesperson Scott Caldwell said Auckland Council’s plans were “very undercooked” and special character areas should never have had protections to begin with.
