Residents have won a major battle against McCallum Bros, Auckland’s biggest supplier of sand for concrete, says Newsroom, as Auckland Council rejects a resource consent application to take more sand off a beach north of Auckland. Dredging company McCallum Bros was told it had failed to supply evidence that sand mining, which has been going on for decades along that stretch of coast, didn’t harm the seabed, the beach, and marine and bird life.
