An 18-month-old child was resuscitated by lifeguards after a near-drowning at Albany Stadium Pool on Sunday afternoon, Stuff reports. “I’d like to thank our lifeguards whose quick thinking and swift actions prevented this from becoming a tragic situation,” Auckland Council’s Dave Stewart said. In 2020, four children under 5 drowned in New Zealand and 38 were hospitalised. Twenty of those hospitalisations were due to incidents in pools.
