An Auckland couple were shocked to find perfectly preserved footprints of a moa during a casual visit to the beach last weekend, Stuff reports. The discovery has prompted Auckland War Memorial Museum to encourage Aucklanders to keep an eye out for fossils following recent storms that ripped through the region causing landslips. A security guard sent by Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara to look after the taonga has been standing watch for the past three days while the museum figures out how to recover the fossil.
