A man on remand inside Mt Eden jail has described a Covid-19 outbreak affecting 300 or more inmates and says some are trying to trick the Covid-19 test to avoid being locked in their cells for prolonged periods. The man’s lawyer, Auckland criminal barrister Peter Eastwood, has confirmed he has been advised of the conditions, Stuff reports. He believes courts should be allowing more non-violent prisoners on remand to be housed in the community and away from the highly infected Mt Eden cell blocks.
