Nola Kaihau, a South Auckland mum, had one wish as 2021 came to a close: that her 15-year-old son would live long enough to see Christmas Day. Epeleli Kaihau died on Boxing Day morning as the result of a brain tumour, Stuff reports, after four years of treatments and hospital visits. In 2020, when faced with the choice of enduring another round of chemo or participating in a drug trial through Auckland University, Epeleli made the decision to take part in the trial – in the hope of helping others like him in the future.
