The protest that revealed a new, ugly, dangerous side to our country

The protest march in Wellington on November 9 shares some of the DNA of the terrible events that took place in Washington DC on January 6, reports The Spinoff. One speaker claimed Auckland was “the largest concentration camp in the world”, and research shows the horrifying abuse and harassment (including death threats) directed at scientists and other experts. Māori media notes that “Māori journos and activists [are] being framed as sell outs and paid puppets,”. A report from Te Pūnaha Matatini warns: “Mis- and disinformation and ‘dangerous speech’ pose significant threats to social cohesion, freedom of expression, inclusion, and safety.”
