The National Party says the $14.6 billion price tag on the preferred option for the Auckland light rail project means the public transport scheme is unviable, Stuff reports. Previous estimates suggested the Auckland light rail project, which would see a tunnel running from the CBD to Mount Roskill, before going above ground to the airport, would cost $6b. National Party transport spokesman David Bennett said the Auckland light rail project didn’t make economic sense and the projected cost of it would only grow.
